Olive McDanolds Centerville - On Wednesday, December 16, 2020, Olive May Tait McDanolds, loving wife and beloved mother of two, passed away at the age of 89. Olive was born on April 19, 1931 to Robert William and Vera May Hughes Tait in Centerville, Iowa. She attended Swan Country, a one-room schoolhouse, until eighth grade and graduated from Moravia High School Class of 1948. After graduation, she began working in the Triple A offices, the company that eventually became the Appanoose County Farm Service Agency (FSA). On July 30, 1949, Olive married U.S. Navy veteran James (Tamey) McDanolds. (She thought he looked like Rock Hudson.) They had two children, Mark and Mary Jo. The couple was married for nearly 70 years and parted only with his passing in 2019. Olive always said he was the love of her life. In her 89 years, Olive dedicated much of her time and attention to her active and growing family. After nearly a decade at FSA, she became a stay-at-home mom, trading in her office work to chase Mark and Mary Jo around the family farm. She belonged to several organizations—the Order of the Eastern Star, the Concord Club, the DD Club—and she treasured the monthly meeting of her Birthday Group. Playing cards was one of her favorite pastimes. She and Tamey attended Couples Bridge parties for years, where they would play past midnight. She taught her grandchildren to play Pitch and joined friends, lifelong and new, in various card groups over the years. She also enjoyed traveling throughout the U.S. and into Canada. Olive is survived by her children Mark McDanolds (Jan) and Mary Jo Fitzgerald (Doug), grandchildren: Catina Tomei (Craig), Joey McDanolds (Jessie), Melissa Belloma (Jeremy), Randy McDanolds (Jamie), Jeanette Pitts (Ryan), Dr. Elizabeth Fitzgerald, Kenneth Fitzgerald (Erica), 16 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren and numerous extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents Robert and Vera Tait, her half-sister Virginia Carney, and her husband James McDanolds. Visitation will be Wednesday, December 23rd, 2020, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home in Centerville . Funeral services will be Thursday, December 24, 2020 at 10 a.m. at Thomas Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Schweizer officiating. Interment will immediately follow at Highland Cemetery in Mystic. Memorials may be given to Highland Cemetery Association. Condolences may be shared at www.thomasfh.com or facebook.com/thomasfuneralhome . Olive's service will be streamed live at facebook.com/thomasfuneralhome . Due to COVID-19 restrictions, masks will be required.
