1939 - 2020 On Friday December 11, 2020, Margaret Elizabeth Ward of Wellfleet Massachusetts passed away at the age of 81. Margaret was born in Brooklyn, New York to Francis Xavier and Agnes Bruton. The second of four children, she grew up in Park Slope an avid fan of the Brooklyn Dodgers before graduating from Salve Regina University with a Bachelor of Arts. Over a career of 30 years, Margaret was a school teacher at PS 188 in the Lower East Side of Manhattan before running the New York City Afterschool Program during the latter part of her career. After retiring to Wellfleet, Margaret established the Wellfleet Childcare Association and its Afterschool program and served as its first Principal. She also was a successful and compassionate fundraiser for the Wellfleet Alzheimer's Association. It was an important part of her life and an important part of her contribution to her final home. Margaret had an extraordinary devotion to children and it showed. It didn't matter where the child was from, if she could help them, she would help them. She also loved the New York Times crossword puzzle, the New York Yankees and New York Giants, Jeopardy, supporting Cape Cod artists, and spending time with her dog Ziggy. Margaret was known for her strength of character, her love for her family, and her kind and compassionate spirit. Margaret was preceded in death by her father Francis Xavier, her mother Agnes, her brother Frank, her husband Bill and her long-time companion Baillie. She is survived by her son Sean, his wife Joyce; her sister Mary, her husband Jerry and their children Adam and Holly; her sister Ann, her husband Bob and their children Margaret, Elizabeth and Kathryn; her sister in law Peggy and her children FX, Meg, Courtney, Heather and Daniel, as well as family friend Milo and many nieces and nephews.
