In memory of
Jack E. Johns
Col. Jack E. Johns TYLER--On Friday, July 17, 2020, Col. Jack E. Johns heard the call of Reveille and opened his eyes to find himself in the presence of his Lord; his beautiful daughter, Julie Kay; and his parents, Lenora McElroy Johns, Kenneth Johns, and Steve Edwards. MEMORIAL SERVICE: 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 21, 2020, in the Marvin United Methodist Church Chapel with Rev. Gerry Giles officiating. A private graveside service will be held in Rose Hill Cemetery. Dad was born in Centerville, Iowa, on Feb. 18, 1931. He moved to Creston, Iowa, as a young teen and it was there that he met Patricia Keast, who quickly became the love of his life. Dad received an appointment to the United States Military Academy at West Point and on the day he graduated from the Academy in 1953, he married Mom...who remained his adoring wife and best friend for the next 67 years. Dad made us Texans when we moved to Richardson with Texas Instruments in 1959. Dad's career path led him to Tyler as their postmaster, then Austin as their postmaster, then finally to Tyler Junior College where he taught until he retired. He had a Master's Degree from SMU, was on the Tyler ISD Board of Trustees and served as president. He stayed active with the Army until he retired in 1991. Dad leaves to tell his story and share his memory, his first and only love, Pat; his children, Cynthia Johns Mendoza (Ralph), Elizabeth Johns Smith (Gregg) and Andrew Lyle Johns (Jennifer); grandchildren, Tricia Klapprodt (Jeffrey), Mandi Johnson, Brooke DeLuna (Chris), Clay Smith (Allison), Kyle Smith, Andrew Johns, Jack Johns and Connor Johns; great-grandchildren, Patrick, Thia, Cailyn, Christian, Kinley, Sanders and Brigham; his brother, Robert Johns (Linda) and their family; and Heidi, his beloved Westie. Dad, we'll deeply love and terribly miss you every day, but you left a legacy that will help us carry on until Reveille calls us home to once again be together. You will always be the wind beneath our wings. MEMORIALS: In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Marvin United Methodist Church, 300 W. Erwin St., Tyler, TX 75702 or West Point Society of North Texas at http://secure.west-point.org/wpsnt/donate "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith!"--2 Timothy 4:7 STEWART FAMILY FUNERAL HOME Tyler, 903-581-2008 View and sign guestbook at www.star-telegram.com/obituaries
