Ralph A. D'Amico July 15, 2020 Ralph Anthony "Art" D'Amico, 103, of Oswego died Wednesday after a brief illness. He was born in Oswego on April 13, 1917 the son of the late Alfred E and Rose Fanelli D'Amico. He served in the United States Army Air Force, during World War II, from 1942 until 1946 where he was an airplane mechanic serving in numerous locations such as Miami Beach, Chicago, Leyte, Manilla, and Japan. He was a Cost Accountant at St. Regis Paper Co, Marathon Paper Co., Alcan, and later became the manager of Nestles Employees Federal Credit Union until his retirement in 1982. Ralph was past Director and Council member of the Syracuse District NYS Credit Union League for 26 years. He was named "Volunteer of the Year" for the Credit Unions, and the Credit Union League established a scholarship in his name. He was also inducted into the Credit Union Hall of Fame in 2010 in Cooperstown. In May of 2011 Ralph was selected to travel to Washington, D.C. on the honor flight to honor World War II Veterans at the age of 94. Ralph was a life member of the Oswego Elks # 271 for 77 years. He was also a member of the American Legion #268, and served on the Oswego County Board of Health, and was a member of the Oswego County Community Services. He volunteered as Treasurer of Harborfest for three years. Ralph enjoyed bowling and golfing until he was 95 years old, and has 2 hole in ones to his record. Ralph was a lifelong communicant of St. Joseph Church. He was predeceased by his wife of 57 years Alice V. (Karam) D'Amico in 2008. Ralph is survived by his children Michael A. D'Amico of Oswego, and Kathleen (Scott) Barnard of Oswego; granddaughters Annmarie (Dr. Anthony) Licatese of Oswego, Alison (Daniel) Panebianco of Manlius; great granddaughter Nicholette and Audriana Licatese, and Maddie Panebianco; and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law Rita D'Amico of Syracuse, and Mary D'Amico of Maryland. In addition to his wife Mr. D'Amico was predeceased by his brothers Alfred (Rico), Joseph, and Robert D'Amico and his sister Yolanda Falcone. Funeral services will be Monday July 20,2020 at 10:00 AM in St. Joseph Church. Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery. Calling hours will be Sunday from 1:00 – 3:00 PM at the Sugar & Scanlon Funeral Home 147 W. 4th. St. Oswego. Please note that Face Masks are required. Visitors will be invited in as others exit to remain within the limited capacity per NYS mandates.
