In memory of
Rose Marie Dempsey
Rose Marie Walters Dempsey, was born in New Orleans, Louisiana to the late Philippine and Charles Jacob Walters, the youngest in a family of six children (Jake, Delores, Tina, Lloyd, and Mary Ellen). She married her teenage sweetheart, Ellwynne Dauphin, in 1955 and together they had three sons: Ron, Gary, and Bryan Dauphin. After losing her first love too soon to cancer in 1965, she met and wed Charles “Chuck” Dempsey and they made Slidell, Louisiana their home base. She and Chuck had a daughter, Tammy Dempsey, with whom Rose resided in Jackson, MS since 2016. Rose and Chuck raised their children in First United Methodist Church in Slidell where they were committed members for more than 40 years. She is survived by her brother Lloyd, children, grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and daughters in law Valerie and Nancy. Her most treasured days included annual family gatherings at the beach and time with grandchildren Rob Dauphin, Kate Dauphin, Matt Dauphin, Mason Dauphin, Nathaniel Dauphin, Kristle Hanson, Melissa Foreman, Wayne Hanson, Melody Stahl and their families. Rose was a longtime volunteer at Slidell Memorial Hospital and Community Christian Concern (CCC). She loved growing things and having her hands in the dirt, watching birds, and following football (namely LSU and the Saints). Rose was a woman of strong Christian faith and made every effort to live it out for others’ benefit. She left the world a bit sweeter and saltier for having been a part of it. Her faith now brings her into the presence of God and provides hope of reunion with friends and loved ones (like you) there. We thank all who contributed to the richness of Rose’s life, including her friends from Slidell, CCC, and First United Methodist Church, as well as her most recent caregivers: Dorothy, Tina, Ella, Susan and Karen. Memorial gifts may be directed to First United Methodist Church, 433 Erlanger St, Slidell LA 70458 or to Community Christian Concern, PO Box 3125, Slidell, LA 70459 Due to limitations imposed by COVID-19, the celebration of her life will include immediate family, first cousins, and a few friends by personal invitation. We regret we cannot have everyone present at the services. You are welcome to join us for a live-streaming of the service on Thursday, June 4 at approximately 11:00 AM Central Time.
