In memory of
Sharyn L. Bentley
Sharyn Lee Bentley, 75, passed away Saturday, May 9 in her home at Arden Courts in Westlake, OH surrounded by her family.
Sharyn was born on Monday, December 25, 1944 to Robert (Jr.) and Marjorie (Tassie) Clement in Detroit, MI. She attended Grosse Pointe South High School in Grosse Pointe Farms, MI. Sharyn attended Parsons College in Iowa where she met her future husband Peter Bentley. They married on October 30, 1966 in Grosse Pointe Woods, MI. Sharyn and Peter celebrated their Golden Anniversary in the fall of 2016 with their family at the church in which they were married. Soon after they were married, Peter entered the Army and they were stationed in Germany where they were able to travel throughout Europe. After the army they settled in Narberth, PA and started a family. While raising two kids, Sharyn was a church secretary for Narberth United Methodist Church. She was a Den Mother for her son's Boy Scout troop and ran a summer arts and crafts program in Narberth Park. In 1986 the family moved to Traverse City, MI to be closer to her family.
Once in Traverse City Sharyn and Peter began running Traverse City's iconic ice cream shop, Bardon's Wonder Freeze. They owned and operated Bardon's for 20 years before happily retiring after the summer of 2006. In the off season Sharyn and Peter also ran the concession stand at Hickory Hills Ski Lodge for 9 years. She and Peter volunteered for many local events including the National Cherry Festival where they were ambassadors and drove the concession cart.
Family vacations were a highlight of Sharyn's childhood. Her mother took her and her two sisters on trips all throughout the United States. Sharyn continued her love of traveling with Peter. They made numerous cross country road trips to the east coast and the west coast to visit family. They often traveled to Florida and the Jersey Shore to visit with friends from Narberth. They would drop everything to jump in the car to go spend time with their granddaughters Nichole in Michigan and Grace in Ohio. Sharyn loved going to the movies and out to lunch with her daughter and sisters. She loved to sit on their beach with her toes in the water.
In 2017, after Peter passed away, Sharyn moved to Ohio to live with her daughter and family. She enjoyed going to the beaches of Lake Erie and out for ice cream. She was always up for a cozy night at home with a good movie and a cuddle from her cat.
