Aaron G. Smith died peacefully at home on May 21, 2019. He was 89. Aaron was born on June 17, 1929 in the Burristown community of Jackson Co., TN. He was preceded in death by parents, D.R. and Iona Maxwell Smith; brothers, Odus M. and Oral T. Smith; and sister, Iris Hogg Wheeler. He is survived by wife of 68 years, Betty Jean Bybee Smith; daughter, Jerrelyn Smith; son, Jeffrey Smith (Tanja); granddaughter, Jennie Smith-Peers (Paul); and step-granddaughter, Erika Glaskox. Aaron served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He graduated from Tennessee Tech in 1958 with a degree in mechanical engineering. During his career as chief engineer for the Nashville Ferro Fiberglass division, he managed five plants across the U.S. and oversaw projects in India, Brazil, France, Spain and Holland. Aaron's inventions for the fiberglass industry were patented in 32 countries. For one of his inventions, he was awarded the I-R 100 Award as one of the "100 Most Significant New Technical Products of the Year" in 1975. He was a member of the Tannehill Masonic Lodge #130 in Gainesboro, TN, for over 60 years and was a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason. He was a member of the Lebanon Road Church of Christ. Aaron was known for his great sense of humor, his deep love of family and genuine kindness for everyone. Visitation will be at Hibbett & Hailey Funeral Home on Saturday, May 25, 2019 from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm with a Celebration of Life immediately following at 12:00 pm. Burial will follow at Rob Draper Memorial Cemetery in Gainesboro, TN, at 3:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Churches of Christ Disaster Relief Fund, 410 Allied Dr., Nashville, TN 37211, or to a charity of your choice.
