Dennis A. Sample
Dennis was born on January 26, 1947, in Indianapolis, Indiana to Marion and Mary Sample. It is with great praise and rejoicing that Dennis found his faith in Jesus Christ and was received by our heavenly Father on April 2, 2019. Dennis received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Law and Criminal Justice from Glassboro State College. After school, Dennis spent 23 years of service in the U.S. Army, four active years and nineteen years in the reserves. Dennis reached the rank of Master Seargent and received several medals of commendation during his years of service. He received a medal for Heroism in Battle for directing a counterattack in the Vietnam War. Dennis also served his country for 35 years as a law enforcement officer with the Kansas City Missouri Police Department and the Salem County Prosecutor's Office. He capped off his career of public service with 12 years at the New Jersey Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness. He leaves his wonderful wife of 49 years, Kay, two daughters: Kristina Griffing (Todd) and Stephanie Hurley (Jason) and well as eight fantastic grandchildren: Brian, Kaylin, Alayna, Owen, Madalyn, Joshua, Wesley, and Gabriel. Services will be held on Thursday, April 11 th at Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home, 212 N. Broad St., Middletown, DE. Visitation will be from 11 am - 12 pm, the service will begin at Noon. Interment with military honors will follow at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Bear, DE. In lieu of flowers, please feel free to donate to the Heartland Hospice Memorial Fund.
