Gilda (Madorsky) Kaplan
Gilda (Madorksy) Kaplan died Friday, November 16 at her home in Elyria, Ohio. She was born March 31, 1925, in Akron, Ohio and a graduate of Cleveland Glenville High School. Gilda was a beloved wife, sister, mother and grandmother who was absolutely adored by her family and friends. Gilda married Lou L. Kaplan and enjoyed over 50 incredible years together. They owned Kaplan’s Furniture and spent much of their time volunteering in the community. They were also members of the Jewish War Veterans in volunteering. Gilda was especially proud of her work as an auxiliary hospital volunteer at EMH. She was the oldest volunteer on record. She spent her later years fundraising and supporting the Alzheimer’s Association.Gilda’s hobbies included skiing, boating, traveling the world, dancing, cooking, playing Rummikub, collecting stamps, gardening, watching sports (especially her grandkids and kids play), and planting beautiful flowers at her home. Many close to her called her Mary Golden for her love of marigolds, which she seeded and then spread out all over the world through her loved ones as they traveled over the years.She is survived by her children, Jeff (Angel), Steve (Kathy), Sharon; grandchildren, Andria (Ilya), Ryan, Jennifer, Jared and Drew; beloved grand dogs, Valentino and Vanessa; as well as her sister, Dylene. Gilda was a light in everyones life and will be dearly missed by all, especially her family and dear friends.She is preceded in death by her parents, Julius and Regina (Dunn) Madorsky; husband, Lou L. Kaplan; sisters, Cecilia, Miriam, Delores; and son, Richard. A funeral service will be held Sunday, November 18 at the Busch Funeral Home, 114 Second St. in Elyria at 1:00 pm. Rabbi Lauren Werber will officiate. Burial will follow at Agudath Achim Cemetery in Elyria.In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Lorain County Historical Society, 284 Washington Ave. Elyria, Ohio 44035, to the Elyria Sports Hall of Fame, P.O.
