Mr. Garland Babb
Rev. Garland Travis Babb, Sr., age 95, entered into the presence of our Lord on October 10, 2018. He is survived by two children and their spouses, Diane Babb Mattox (Charles) and G. Travis Babb, Jr. (Susan); six grandchildren, Claire Mattox Shearn (Terrance), Wes Mattox (Erica), Jillianne Mattox, Breanne Babb Anderson (Blake), Brodie Babb (Vanessa), and Blaine Babb (Cara); and 18 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife of 65 years, Lewellyn Williams Babb; his parents, Irvin and Ruby Babb; and his brother, Raymond E. Babb. Mr. Babb was born in Portsmouth, Virginia. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, met and married his wife, received the Lord into his life and answered God's call to preach during 1946-47. He graduated from Bob Jones University in 1955 and then served at BJU as a faculty member and campus pastor for 49 years. While teaching Bible and Greek classes, he also pastored three churches in SC and GA. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, October 14, 2018 at 2:30 PM in the chapel of Mackey Funerals & Cremations at Woodlawn Memorial Park, 1 Pine Knoll Drive, Greenville, SC 29609, with entombment to follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 1:30 PM – 2:15 PM at the funeral home prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bob Jones University, BJU Together Scholarships for needy students, 1700 Wade Hampton Blvd, Greenville, SC 29614.
