In memory of
Randall S. Short
March 31, 1968 - July 11, 2018 Pastor Randall Short passed away after a valiant battle against cancer on July 11, 2018. He was the Pastor of Glendale Church of the Brethren for one short year, lovingly leading and encouraging the congregation to find their ministry. He was born in Livonia, Michigan and adopted by loving parents Denzel and Merna Short in July 1968. He liked to brag he was one of the chosen ones. He grew up attending Trinity Church of the Brethren in Redford, Michigan where he learned to love the Lord and ministry under the guidance of many loving mentors. He attended Bethany Theological Seminary where he completed the TRIM Program and was licensed and ordained. He referred to himself as a "Brethren Homer" because he believed in and loved the Brethren Church and its traditions with all his heart. He did his supervised ministry at Middlebury Church of the Brethren in Middlebury, Indiana under the guidance of Dan Petry, was on staff as associate pastor and youth leader at Lick Creek Church of the Brethren in Bryan Ohio, he returned back home to the church he grew up in and was pastor at Living Peace Church of the Brethren in Plymouth Michigan (formerly Trinity COB) before accepting the call to Glendale Church of the Brethren in Glendale, California. Pastor Randy was a devoted servant of God and believed with his whole heart that all people are beloved children of God. He believed that ministry was not confined to the church but out in the world walking with people creating relationships, building them up and helping them to build the kingdom. He got great joy out of planting the garden and sow the seed. He loved to spend time with family and friends, was a diehard University of Michigan fan and rarely missed an Indy 500 race. His passion for life was evident in the way he lived, loved and died. He would often quote, "It's not about being right, it's about doing the right thing."Pastor Randy will be greatly missed. He is survived by his beloved wife Kathleen (Bourgoin) Short, daughter Bailey Short, Parents Denzel and Merna Short, His siblings Arlen and Corby Short, Lynette and John Berlongeri, Charisse Terry, and several Nieces and Nephews. In lieu of flowers we request that donations be made to Brethren Disaster Ministries (BDM) at https://churchofthebrethren.givingfuel.com/bdm or Children's Disaster Services (CDS) at https://churchofthebrethren.givingfuel.com/cds .
