Jon David Miller
MILLER, Jon David Jon David Miller passed away on Tuesday, May 15, 2018 in Coppell, Texas, surrounded by family and with complete assurance of his heavenly home. Jon Miller was born October 10, 1962 at Ellsworth AFB, South Dakota. The third child of Jack and JoAnne Miller, Jon graduated from Jack C. Hays High School, where he excelled academically (salutatorian) and athletically. Destined to be an Aggie, Jon received his BBA in Accounting with Honors in 1984 from Texas A&M University. Jon was a proud member of the Corps of Cadets, Squadron One, and served as Wing Commander and a Ross Volunteer. After graduation, Jon was commissioned as an officer in the U.S. Air Force. He served our country as a T-37 instructor and KC-10 pilot and was a veteran of the Persian Gulf War. Once his military service was completed, Jon joined Delta Airlines as a pilot and felt privileged to have a domestic and international flying career, but often told his boys and wife his favorite layover was home. Jon's greatest passion was serving - his family, others, community and country. Jon was an active member of Valley Ranch Baptist Church, where he went on mission trips, spearheaded logistics for the VRBC/Cornerstone Baptist Church Christmas Store, and volunteered in numerous ways. Even during his four-year health battle, Jon continued to devotedly mentor boys at Tom Landry Elementary School as part of the Big Hope program. Recently, Jon was recognized as the 2017-2018 Big Hope Volunteer of the Year. Jon was preceded in death by his parents, Jack Miller and Jo Anne Nielsen Miller. Survivors include: his wife of 32 years Angela Dodd Miller; his sons Matthew (wife Caroline), Nathan (wife Nicole), and Andrew; grandsons Savon'Tae and Jack; sister Christina Miller (husband Jeffrey Miller) and brother Marcus Miller (wife Laura Lynn); father-in-law and mother-in-law John and Betty Dodd; brother-in-law David Dodd; nephews Brett Miller, Erik Miller, Justin Dodd; and nieces Camryn Miller, Madison Miller and Caroline Dodd. A memorial service to celebrate Jon's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 18th at Valley Ranch Baptist Church in Coppell, Texas. Visitation: 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. on May 17th at the Rolling Oaks Funeral Home in Coppell, TX. Internment: Rolling Oaks Memorial Center, Coppell, TX. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Big Brothers, Big Sisters' Big Hope Mentoring Initiative ( www.bbbstx.org/jonmiller ) or Cornerstone Baptist Church, P.O. Box 152551, Dallas, Texas 75215 or to Valley Ranch Baptist Church with a notation designating Big Hope or Cornerstone Baptist Church as the intended recipient. Proverbs 17:17 tells us that "A friend loveth at all times." Angela and her sons wish to thank the family members and friends who have faithfully supported them.
