DR. DANILO P. AQUINO, 78 LAKE WALES - On Thursday, February 15, 2018, Dr. Danilo P. Aquino devoted husband, father, and grandfather, passed away at the age of 78. He is survived by his wife Hedy; daughter Monica, her husband Peter and children: Anthony, Matthew, and Andrew of Arlington, VA; his daughter Melinda, her husband Eric and their children: Audrey and Theodore of New York, NY; and daughter Melissa and her husband Brett of Spring Hill, TN. Danilo was born on August 30, 1939, in Daet, Camarines Norte, Philippines, to Drs. Mateo and Maria Aquino. He graduated with his medical degree from the University of Santo Tomas and served as a municipal health officer in Capalonga, Philippines, before coming to the U.S. A specialist in clinical cardiology and internal medicine, he held residencies in St. Peter's General Hospital (New Brunswick, NJ) and Mt. Sinai Medical Centers (Baltimore, MD) and served as Chief Fellow in Cardiology (Intensive Care Unit and Coronary Care Unit) at Mt. Sinai Medical Centers (Miami Beach, FL). He ultimately found his home in Polk County, where he had his private practice for over forty years. Danilo not only healed hearts but gave his heart to his community and those in need. A long time resident of Lake Wales he proudly was part of the Lake Wales Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. While Lake Wales became his home, he never forgot his roots and pride in being Filipino. He founded and was president of Global Operation Sunshine, Inc., an international non-profit that provided medical relief and supplies to underserved areas across the world, particularly areas in the Philippines. A man of many passions, Danilo was an avid fisherman, black belt in Shotokan Karate, and bromeliad enthusiast. What his family and friends will most remember him for though is his joyous storytelling, humor, selflessness, and devotion to family. A funeral Mass is scheduled for Thursday, March 15, at 2 p.m. at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Lake Wales, FL. Father Kenny Aquino will officiate the Mass. Inurnment will follow at St. Matthews Catholic Church in Winter Haven, FL. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Danilo's life.
