Shirley A. Lewis
Shirley Ann Lewis, 92, of Oak Island passed away Saturday, January 27, 2018 at Ocean Trail Convalescent Center in Southport. Ms. Lewis was born November 29, 1925 in Johnstown, Pennsylvania to David A. Lewis and Mary B. Lewis. She held a degree from State Teachers College, Indiana, Pennsylvania and a Master's Degree from the University of Pittsburgh. Shirley was a teacher for 36 1/2 years in the Adam Township School District, Forest Hills. She was also a life member of NEA, member and Deaconess of Memorial Baptist Church in Johnstown, Past Matron of Order of Eastern Star as well as Past Matron of Amaranth and a member of White Shrine. She moved to Yaupon Beach, North Carolina in 1985 and became a member of the adult choir and handbell choir at Southport Baptist Church. Shirley was an active member and officer of Southport Woman's Club, Secretary of Brunswick Singles Network, and a member of Friends of the Library. She spent 20 years as a Dosher Hospital Volunteer and 26 years as a volunteer with the Red Cross. Shirley was preceded in death by her only sibling, her loving brother David V. Lewis. Her loves and joy were her nieces Janice Milot, the late Vicki Falcon; nephews David R. Lewis and Eric Lewis, their children and families. In accordance with her wishes, no services are planned.
