In memory of
Frank Keating, 88, of Springfield died peacefully at home Tuesday morning, April 18, surrounded by his loving family. Frank, son of the late Frank J. and Elizabeth (Shea) Keating was born in Springfield on January 25, 1929. He was a graduate of Cathedral High School and served two years with the U.S. Army in Korea during the Korean War. Frank worked for nearly 40 years with the phone company, starting with The Bell System through his retirement with Verizon in 1990 and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers. A lifelong resident of Springfield, Frank was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church and a lifetime member of the John Boyle O'Reilly Club. He was also an active member of the Sons of Erin in Westfield and the American Legion Liberty Post 430 on Hungry Hill in Springfield. Quite the athlete, Frank played softball for 20 years on the Sullivan-Keating team. He was outgoing and friendly to all and loved Irish music, the Red Sox, Patriots and hanging in retirement with his friends at the Donut Dip. Frank, Frankie, Mr. Frank or "Red," as he was known, was a remarkably compassionate and loving husband, father, Boppa, brother, cousin and uncle who cherished his family and friends and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Predeceased by his loving wife, Peggy, in 2010, he leaves his children, Mary E. Keating of Springfield, MA, Ellen E. Collins and her husband Mike of East Longmeadow, MA, Frank W. Keating of Los Angeles, CA, Bill J. Keating of West Springfield and two grandsons whom he adored, Michael and Tim (wife Jen). He is survived by his brother Edward J. Keating of Springfield, MA. Also, by his much loved cousins, nieces, nephews and neighbors. We would like to thank Murphy Avis Assisted Living Services for their kind and compassionate care. Visiting Hours for Frank will be held Friday, April 21, 2017 from 4PM to 7PM at Sampson’s Chapel of the Acres Funeral Home, 21 Tinkham Road, Springfield. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, April 22, 2017 beginning at Sampson’s at 8:30AM followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10AM in Sacred Heart Church, 395 Chestnut St., Springfield. Rites of Committal and Interment will follow in St. Michael’s Cemetery, 1601 State St., Springfield. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Frank's memory may be made to the Sacred Heart Church Renovation and Maintenance Fund, 395 Chestnut Street, Springfield, MA 01104 or to Murphy Avis Assisted Living Services, 120 Chestnut Street, East Longmeadow, MA 01028.
