In memory of
Charlotte Ann Bollinger
Charlotte Bollinger died unexpectedly on Monday, April 17, 2017 at Henry Ford Medical Center in Detroit. She was born on March 8, 1946 in Mishawaka, Ind. and grew up in South Bend, Ind. where she graduated from Reilly High School in 1964. She attended Indiana University and was graduated in 1968 with a bachelor's degree in education. While at IU, she met her husband, Bruce, who was serving with the U.S. Air Force detachment there. The couple wed on May 18, 1968. Charlotte supported her husband's Air Force career by accompanying him to many duty assignments in Germany, England and several stateside locations before arriving in Oscoda at Wurtsmith AFB in 1982. She began her career in education with several years of long-term substitute teaching with Oscoda Area Schools before being hired full time as a high school science teacher. Teaching was a true passion for her. She was so proud of the multitude of students with whom she had the opportunity to share knowledge throughout her 20-year career. This passion also included her service as coach for the school's annual Science Olympiad team. In addition, she served youth for over two decades as an adult Boy Scout leader in northeast Michigan's former Lake Huron Area Council. She retired from Oscoda Area Schools in 2009 but continued to teach anatomy and physiology courses within the nursing program at Alpena Community College. When not in the classroom, she enjoyed RV camping with her husband in northern Michigan and the Upper Peninsula. She also enjoyed sightseeing trips throughout the area, especially along local roadways where deer, turkey, eagles and Sandhill cranes might be seen. Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents, Myron and Beulah Deepe of South Bend, Ind.; a younger brother, Brett; and a younger sister, Becky. She is survived by her husband, Bruce; her son, Christopher (Karen) Bollinger of Slidell, La., her daughter, Beth Bollinger of Alpena; brother, David Deepe of Wabash, Ind.; sister, Myra (Jerry) Perkins of Roann, Ind.; sister-in-law, Barbara (Norman) Pollock of Warren, Ohio; along with numerous cousins, nieces and nephews in Indiana. A visitation service will be held on Friday, April 21 from 3 to 6 p.m. at Buresh Funeral Home in Oscoda. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made through scholarship donations in her memory to the Oscoda Education Opportunity Foundation.
