Mrs. Lillie Jean Wright
Lillie Jean Dawkins Wright died on Friday, April 14, 2017, at Palmetto Health Richland in Columbia. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 19, 2017, at First Baptist Church Chester. The family will receive friends Wednesday, April 19, 2017, from 10 until 11 a.m. in the vestibule of the church. Interment will be held in Evergreen Cemetery, Chester. Born Feb. 12, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Blanche Morton and James Delaney Dawkins and a life-long resident of Chester. She graduated from Chester High School in 1947 and attended Winthrop College. Jean retired as secretary of the Chester County Farm Bureau after many years of service. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Chester and served as a teacher for children, youth and adults and was a member of the adult and hand bell choirs. Mrs. Wright also served as a group leader for the Bereavement Committee and was active in WMU and numerous committees within the church. She was supportive of Scouting, having served as a Cub Scout Den Mother and "mother" to many Scouts of Troop 64 through the years. Jean enjoyed knitting and crocheting, making many blankets for newborns and for her family and many friends. She was an active bridge player and participated for many years in the Diversity Study Club. Jean was an avid Clemson fan who enjoyed tailgating at games with family and friends of all ages. She and Frank enjoyed traveling throughout the country and especially to the beach and mountains. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, William Delaney Dawkins, Harold Dale Dawkins, and "Butch" Dawkins; and a nephew, Michael Dawkins. She is survived by her husband of nearly 67 years, Frank Lloyd Wright; her sons: William Frank Wright (Terri Atkinson) of Ridgeway, S.C., Harold Edward Wright (Kathy) of Camden, S.C. and Jody Chapman Wright (Deborah) of Rocky Mount, N.C.; four grandchildren; four great-granddaughters; and numerous nieces and nephews.
