In memory of
George W. McKissick, age 86, a 46 year resident of Naperville, IL, passed away peacefully on April 18, 2017 in Naperville, IL. He was born on April 15, 1931 in Holyoke, MA. George is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Barbara, nee Holzer; his loving children, Karen, Jim, Jack (Debbie), and Drew (Angie) McKissick; his grandchildren, Matthew, Katie, Colin, Kelly, Holly, Andrew, Scott, Brian, Evan and Doug McKissick; his two nieces, six nephews and many cousins and good friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Emma McKissick and his sister, Marge Ortensi. George graduated from Holyoke High School and Valparaiso University. He proudly served in the US Army during the Korean War. He was a longtime, active member of the Naperville American Legion and VFW. George worked for Standard Oil of Indiana. He owned and operated the Hinsdale Village Standard station for nearly 30 years. After his retirement, he enjoyed working for many years at Buikema's Ace Hardware on 75th St. George will be remembered for his generosity and caring nature, as well as the many stories he shared with great enthusiasm. For those who would like to leave a lasting tribute to George's life, memorials to either Valparaiso University or the DuPage Veteran's Foundation (please write "Honor Flight Chicago" in the memo line). Visitation will be Friday, April 21, 3:00 until 8:00 PM at the Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville and Saturday, April 22, 10:00 until 11:00 AM at Bethany Lutheran Church, 1550 Modaff Rd., Naperville. Funeral Services will follow at 11:00 AM at the church with Pastor Stephen Schumacher officiating. Interment will be at Naperville Cemetery.
