Istenya Hurty - 1975 - 2017. Istenya Hurty passed away on April 2, 2017, at her home in Salt Lake City, Utah where she lived with her husband Tim and their three cats. She is survived by her mother Gail and step-father Michael Cohen; her father Bill Boyle; and a long list of other relatives including her grandmother, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Growing up, Istenya enjoyed ballet, gymnastics, and learned how to ski at a young age. She was creative and an avid reader, graduating with honors from the University of Utah, with a degree in psychology. Most recently she was employed by the state, providing services to refugees and others in need. She had a strong work ethic and was passionate about social justice. Istenya was a beautiful woman with a kind and open heart. True to her convictions, she embraced a vegan lifestyle and celebrated diversity. She always had an adventurous spirit and loved to travel, making trips to the Central Coast for visits with family and friends. Having remarkable strength and courage, she faced her fate with grace and dignity, donating her body to science for the benefit of others.
