Lieutenant Fernando Leyva (Dick) Tuao
Lieutenant Tuao was born on May 30, 1934 and passed away on Saturday, April 15, 2017. Lieutenant Tuao was a resident of Massachusetts at the time of passing. Dick earned his Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration majoring in both Management and in Economics. He held the distinction of being the youngest College of Commerce graduate of the University of the East in Manila that year. He was also the top graduate of the University's ROTC Cadet Officers Candidate School which earned him a commission to Cadet Captain. Dick was the top graduate of the Stewards Class. He survived WWII in the Philippines. He enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard on October 11 1957 even though the Steward's rate was the only specialty offered to recruits from the Philippines. He earned various medals and awards and on October 31 1983 he retired from the Coast Guard after more than 26 years of active military service. After retirement from active military service he was hired as a Civil Service Employee by the Coast Guard Headquarters in Washington D.C as the Authorized Certifying Officer for all accounting transactions. Lieutenant Tuao was married to Paula. Visiting hours will be held on Monday April 17th from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Morris O'Connor Blute Funeral Home 58 Long Pond Drive South Yarmouth. A Funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday April 18th at 10 am at St Pius X Church Station Ave. South Yarmouth. Burial will follow at the Massachusetts National Cemetery Bourne MA. In lieu of flowers it is requested that any gifts in his memory be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital 501 St. Jude Place Memphis TN 38105.
