In memory of
Carla Faber
Carla Faber Des Moines/Waukee Easter Sunday was the day our beautiful mother, Carla Faber, chose to be with God. A perfectly fitting homecoming for our passionately devoted Catholic angel. For Carla, more commonly known as Daughter, Sister, Wife, Mother, Aunt, Grandma, Cheerleader, Teacher, Leader, Matriarch, and Friend - it couldn't have been a more appropriate day for her to go. Carla passed on with grace and beauty, much like the way she led her life, with most of her loving family she created, taught, and led, in her presence. Carla was born in Des Moines in 1936, proudly attended St. Joseph's Academy, married her husband, Floyd, and gave birth to seven children. But, for Carla, those seem to be the small accolades. Those who were blessed to have met her could not help but to be positively influenced in one way or another, by her warmth, strength, love, contagious smile, gentle demeanor and compassion. Once you met Carla, you wanted her in your life forever. Like a true Irish woman, she was stubborn; a true Catholic, she was selfless with dignified faith; And like a perfect Murphy and Faber, she was ornery: ornery to the end - in fact. A characteristic she'd pass on to her seven children that they happily accept and will carry on. Carla had unwavering faith, and a tremendous love for not only her family, but others who were considered as family who were not her own blood. These have been the fibers of Carla's life. As a mother and grandmother, she taught us how to be loyal, supportive and be there for one another. Carla enjoyed nothing more than being surrounded by the ones she loved. Her beautiful legacy will continue on with her loving family. She will be greatly missed by all her family but her love and memories will be held close to our hearts. Carla is survived by her proud children; Michele Galloway (John), Elizabeth Hilgenberg (Doug), Tari St. Clair (Rich), Mindy Schmitt (Mike), Kerry Esch (Craig) , Tom Faber (Kathy), and Peter Faber (Beth) her loving siblings, Bill Murphy (Marie), Jim Murphy and Diane Hensel (Paul), her loving grandchildren, Sean (Sara), Jon (Jodi), Sara (Joel), Tylor (Mallory), Ashlie, Jenna (Brady), Haley, Ryan, Alex, Hailey, Audrey, Emily, Thomas, Kylie, Alaina and Finn; her great grandchildren; Rowan, Kylie, Jack, Mya, Olivia, Kelby, Lyla and Kason and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in her death by her husband-Floyd Faber, her parents-Carl and Norma Murphy, her siblings- Raymond Murphy, Sherry Scalise and Marylin Gittlin. The family will receive friends from 5 - 7 p.m. Thursday, April 20, 2017, at St. Boniface Catholic Church, 1200 Warrior Ln, Waukee, IA 50263 where a vigil service will be held at 5 p.m. A Memorial Mass will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 21, at St. Boniface Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers memorial contribution may be made to Dowling Catholic High School Foundation, AHeinz57 Rescue and Transport, or John Stoddard Cancer Center. Online condolences will be welcomed at Iles.cares.com .
