Gordon E. Goodwin
Gordon E. Goodwin Age: 76 • Hinesburg Gordon E. Goodwin, 76, passed away on Friday, April 14, 2017 at the UVM Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family, after a very long and courageous battle with Type 1 diabetes and it's complications. He was born on September 21, 1940 in North Hyde Park, VT to Edwin A. and Ruth L. (Bushey) Goodwin. He graduated from Burlington High School in 1959. During his junior year he enlisted in the US Navel Reserves and was due to serve on active duty but was honorably discharged in November 1960 due to his diabetes. After graduation Gordon went on to take several post-graduate courses in electronics. On June 8, 1963 he married his high school sweetheart Janice Campbell Goodwin and they raised 2 children together in South Burlington. Gordon was employed by IBM and took early retirement in 1995. He then joined his wife in the daily operation of their antiques and restoration shop, Victorian House Antiques, in Johnson, Vt. After the shop closed in 2003, they moved to Middlebury to be closer to their grandchildren and continued to enjoy their time working together buying and selling antiques and traveling to shows. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and he loved everything nature had to offer. Gordon was a devoted family man and was always there when the kids needed "dad's opinion". He will be deeply missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his loving, devoted wife of 53 years, Janice; his son, Todd Goodwin of Hinesburg; his daughter, Kristen Goodwin Howard and her fiance, David Daniels of Lincoln; his grandchildren, Thomas John and Katrina Rose Howard of Lincoln; his sister, Lola Danis of Bradenton, FL; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Neil and Melanie Campbell and their family of Damascus, Maryland; his step-mother, Emily Goodwin of Wasilla, AK; also, aunts, many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, Edwin Goodwin, Ruth Goodwin Winterbottom; his step-father, Armand Winterbottom and his brother-in-law, Raymond Danis. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at the UVM Medical Center who treated and supported Gordon for many years. Also, most recently, the doctors and nurses on McLure 5 and McLure 3 ICU. We will be forever grateful. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, April 20, 2017 at 11:30 AM at St. John Vianney Church, 160 Hinesburg Road, South Burlington, VT. Interment to follow in Resurrection Park Cemetery, South Burlington. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The New England Diabetes Assoc., 260 Cochituate Rd., #200, Framingham, MA 01701. Arrangements are by Boucher and Pritchard Funeral Directors.
