Mary J. Fahey
Mary J. Fahey passed away on April 15, 2017. She was a proud graduate of Thomas J. Corcoran High School, Class of 1970. Following her graduation from Buffalo State, where she majored in Theatre, she served on the staff of the National Endowment for the Arts in Washington, D.C. She then enrolled in the University at Buffalo Law School, where she was a member of the Law Review. While on the Law Review, she published an article about the Constitution's Double Jeopardy Clause that was cited by United States Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens. Upon her graduation, she served as a law clerk in the Appellate Division Fourth Department of New York State Supreme Court. She was then hired as an associate counsel by the Wall Street firm of Stroock, Stroock and Levan. She returned to Syracuse to join the staff of Onondaga County District Attorney Robert Wildridge and then served as a law clerk for the Hon. Stewart F. Hancock, Jr. Mary was a sole practitioner for many years before enthusiastically joining the staff of the Onondaga County Law Department, from which she retired. She was a lifelong "Yellow Dog" Democrat, who loved her family, her pets, politics and all things Irish. She was predeceased by her parents, Judge James J. and Mary M. Fahey and her sister and best friend, Jane Fahey-Suddaby. She is survived by her brothers, Jim, Chuck and Joe (Terri Bright), her brother-in-law, Judge Glenn Suddaby, her nieces, Meghan Fahey Gaffey (Rob Poyer) and Kate Fahey-Sheedy (Ben Sheedy), her nephews, Conor Suddaby and Ryan Suddaby, and her great-niece Claire Gaffey. Calling hours will be at Most Holy Rosary Church, 111 Roberts Ave., Syracuse from 4-7pm on Wednesday. Funeral Mass will be at Most Holy Rosary Church at 10am on Thursday. Burial will be private.
