Robert H. Kaffenberger Evansville, IN Robert "Bob" H. Kaffenberger, age 83, passed away Saturday, April 15, 2017. He was the youngest and fifth child born to Timothy H. and Elnora C. (Niemeier) Kaffenberger on January 31, 1934 in Mt. Vernon, Indiana. He attended St. Matthew School in Mt. Vernon and graduated from Mt. Vernon High School in 1952. He married his high school sweetheart Velva Gholson on May 30, 1953. Bob served in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1958, serving with the 85th Infantry Regt.(1125), 10th Infantry Division and stationed at Ft. Ord, CA for six months and eighteen months in Bamberg, Germany. He retired from Whirlpool Corp. in 1989 after 33 years of employment. Bob was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church for 56 years where in past years he had served as Vice President & President of the Men's Club, sang in the choir and volunteered for many activities. He was also a member of the West Side Nut Club for 45 years and valued the many friendships he made through the club. He was a member of the USI Varsity Club and served on the Varsity Club Board for two terms and enjoyed volunteering for many events. He was a member of the Whirlpool Management Club for many years. Bob's favorite hobby was fishing. He also enjoyed watching the many birds around his bird feeders, gardening, and working on his lawn and flowers. He enjoyed his family most of all, especially attending the many activities of his children and grandchildren. He and Velva loved music, dancing and traveling. Bob enjoyed watching the St. Louis Cardinals, the Indianapolis Colts and was a big fan of college basketball, especially the USI Men's & Women's teams and was disappointed when he was no longer able to travel to out of town games because of health reasons. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Martha Kuhn and Marylou Curtis, a brother LaVern Kaffenberger and nephew Ben Curtis. He is survived by wife Velva (Gholson) Kaffenberger, a daughter Karen Schenk (Brian) of Evansville and their children Dr. Meghann Schenk (Dr. Jeff Hotaling) of Baton Rouge, LA, Mallory Eickhoff (Mitchell) of Augusta, GA and Matthew of Reno, NV; a son Kent Kaffenberger (Madonna Waters) of Evansville and his children Abbigail Moog (Ryan) of Overland Park, KS, Nicklaus Kaffenberger and Lucas Kaffenberger (Brittany) of Evansville, Madonna's daughters Andrea Chambers (J.W.) and their children Madison and Nolan and Sydney Kissinger of Evansville. He is also survived by brother Timothy Kaffenberger (Jean) of Wildwood, FL and sister-in-law Phyllis Kaffenberger of Evansville, and sister-in-laws Barbara Fritz of Dallas TX, Delores Elder of Grayville, IL, Joyce (John) Robinson of St. Louis, MO, Vicki Gholson of Evansville and brother-in-laws Bill (Mary) Gholson and Tom Gholson of Harrisburg, IL and many special cousins, nieces and nephews. The family would also like to extend a special thank you to Vicki Gholson and LeAnn Bixby for their special care of Bob. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held at 10:00 A.M. on Thursday, April 20, 2017 at Corpus Christi Church, Rev. Claude Burns officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 2:00 until 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin Street and from 9:30 A.M. until service time on Thursday at Corpus Christi Church. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Robert & Velva Kaffenberger Accounting Scholarship payable to USI Foundation, 8600 University Blvd., Evansville, IN 47712 or the West Side Nut Club Scholarship Fund, P.O.
