Rose Marie (Baginski) Lewis
Rose Marie LEWIS (Baginski) Rose Marie Lewis, a registered nurse for 35 years, died at UTMC on April 16, 2017 at the age of 87. She was born in Toledo, Ohio to Sadie and Walter Baginski on December 16, 1929. Both have preceded her in death. She was the widow of Norman Lewis who she married in 1951. Her children claim the marriage was so strong that even death could not severe that relationship. Rose Marie graduated from Whitney High School and Maumee Valley Hospital School of Nursing. She attended Ohio State University and Bowling Green University. She was an instructor to student nurses in operating room procedures and techniques. She also instructed LPN's and nurses aids in nursing procedures. Rose Marie was the Director of Nurses at the Lucas County Home and was responsible for keeping the home operational at the time of the workers 'walk out' in 1967 until it merged with MCO. She then went to Toledo Hospital where she was hired as assistant director of nursing. She had several titles and stayed at the Toledo Hospital until her retirement in 1985. Rose Marie was a member of St. Hyacinth Parish and their Altar Society, Parish Council, Seniors, Eucharist minister and played an active role in all its functions. She also conducted craft classes for seniors. She was a member of St. Frances Guild, Margaret Hunt Senior Center, American Legion Auxiliary Przybylski Post 642, where she served as past 1st vice president. She also served as a past advisor to LPNAO-division 9. Rose participated in the Harvard Nurse's Health Study 45 years. Rose Marie had many diversional talents. She loved to knit, crochet, and do all crafts. She was a talented cake decorator, loved cooking, baking, painting and gardening. In her retirement, she enjoyed the outdoors, flowers, lawncare, etc. She also became active in volunteer work with Visiting Nurse, Red Cross, Kidney, Epilepsy, Heart, Diabetes, and Cancer Associations. She will also be remembered fondly by friends and family for her affable conversational style and witty sense of humor. She was always ready to hear or tell a funny story and always wore a smile on her face. Rose Marie is survived by her children, Kathy (Kashia) (Bill) Barnard, Gary Lewis and Jim (Barbara) Lewis. Her grandchildren, Matthew and Shannon Lewis, Tom (Crystal) Burnworth, Rose (John) Ward and great grandchildren, Gage, Sophia, Sadie, Adam and Jack. She is also survived by her brother Ted (Shirley) Baginski and very special nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Florence Lewandowski, Lillian Rosnack, Helen Baginski and brother, Walter Baginski. Family and friends may visit on Wednesday from 2-8:00 p.m. at the W.K. Sujkowski & Son Funeral Home, where funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 20, 2017 at 9:30.a.m. followed by the Funeral Mass at St. Hyacinth Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery. The family of Rose Marie Lewis wishes to express their sincere gratitude. We are extremely grateful for the comfort, kindness and concern that has been shown to us by each of you. Rosie will be remembered for having touched the lives of many people in various roles, daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, friend, neighbor, teacher and nurse.
