Glenn C. Hurt 1933 - 2017 BLOOMINGTON, IL - Glenn C. Hurt, 84, of Bloomington and Fort Myers, Florida, passed away at noon on Friday, April 14, 2017 at his home in Bloomington. His memorial Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday, April 21, 2017 at St. Patrick Church of Merna, Bloomington, with Rev. Dustin Schultz officiating. Entombment will be in the mausoleum at East Lawn Memorial Gardens, Bloomington. Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. Thursday, April 20, 2017 at Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home, Bloomington. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, the St. Vincent de Paul Society or to Central Catholic High School. He was born March 1, 1933 in Springfield, a son of William G. and Della Jensen Hurt. He married Brenda Thornton on April 19, 1958 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Lincoln. Surviving are his wife, Brenda Hurt of Bloomington and Fort Myers , Florida; a daughter, Wendy (Rick) Binfield of Fayetteville, GA; two grandchildren, Wade Binfield of Fayetteville, GA and Lesley Binfield of Gilbert, AZ; his twin brother, Gene C. (Diane) Hurt of Springfield; an aunt, Glenith Hurt of Princeton; three nieces; loving cousins and close friends. He was preceded in death by a son, David Alan Hurt on March 17, 1963; his parents; and one brother, Kenneth D. Hurt. Glenn grew up in Lincoln and graduated from Lincoln Community High School where he played basketball and played trumpet in the band. After high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force where he served four years in the Strategic Air Command prior to being honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant. He also played trumpet in the U.S. Air Force Drum and Bugle Corps. Following his military service, Glenn graduated from Southern Illinois University with a degree in business marketing. He began his career with State Farm Insurance Companies in 1961 where he remained for 34 years, retiring as an Underwriting Consultant in Life Health. Glenn was very proud of his long association with State Farm. He was a member of the Alpha Kappa Psi professional fraternity, a lifetime member of the Elks, past member and president of Lakeside Country Club, a member of Bloomington Country Club and the Young Men's Club. An entertainer at heart, Glenn immensely enjoyed performing in Community Players productions, including "How to Succeed in Business without Trying," "Plain and Fancy," and "1776." He also relished the time spent performing with the Barbershoppers and continuing his stage presence with the Cross Creek Players in Florida. Glen was an avid sports fan who enjoyed golf and was dedicated to following his St. Louis Cardinals. It was once said that "most of us go to the grave with the music still inside of us." Glenn would always accept the mic "For the Good Times." Glenn was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and loyal friend who will be forever in our hearts.
