Joan T. Whitaker
Joan T. Whitaker SAUGERTIES- Joan T. Whitaker died Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at the Northeast Center for Rehabilitation in Lake Katrine. She was 84 years old. Born April 8, 1933 in Veteran, she was the daughter of Louis Mower and Mary Hallion "Maisy" Mower. On Sept. 12, 1954 she married Albert Whitaker, who died Sept. 8, 2004. She was employed by Lezette Express in Veteran for many years and worked part time for Maynard, O'Connor and Smith in Saugerties. She was a parishioner of St. John the Evangelist in Centerville and a member of the Altar Rosary Society. A member and past secretary of the Saugerties Senior Citizens Club, she also was a life member of the Centerville Fire Company Auxiliary and a member of the Red Hatters. Her favorite pastimes included card playing, crocheting and other handiwork for which she won many awards at both the Ulster and Dutchess County Fairs. Survivors include her son, Mark of Saugerties; her brother, William and his wife Noreen of Saugerties; her sister, Patricia Peckovitch of Smith's Landing; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her son, Paul Whitaker; her sister, Elizabeth Mower; and her brother, Raymond Mower. A Funeral procession will form 9:15 a.m. Tuesday, April 18, 2017, at Buono Funeral Service, Inc., Main Street Chapel, Saugerties, N.Y., and then proceed to St. John the Evangelist Parish Center in Centerville, where a 10 a.m. a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will follow immediately in Blue Mountain Cemetery. Friends may call Monday from 2 until 4 p.m. and 7 until 9 p.m. at Buono Funeral Service, Inc.
