In memory of
Linda Rust
Linda Rust was born Linda Gay Hummel on October 26, 1954 in Tokyo, Japan to Army Sergeant First Class Gordon Edward Hummel and Gay Jeannette Rowles. As a child, Linda got to see the world, including living in Italy and Germany. Her family eventually settled in Clearfield, Pennsylvania, where Linda was a top-ranked student at Clearfield High School. She graduated from Penn State University and then received an MBA from the University of Tennessee. In 1978, she went to work for the Exxon Corporation in Houston, Texas as an accountant. While working at Exxon, Linda met a fellow accountant from Virginia named Ken Rust. In May 1984, they were married in Grand Junction, Colorado. On February 11, 1985, their first son, Owen Patrick Rust, was born. Shortly thereafter, the young family moved to Denver. On August 21, 1986, their younger son, Colin Matthew Rust, joined the family. In October of that year, they relocated to Midland, Texas. In Midland, Linda continued her career as an accountant. She and her husband worked hard to make the best lives possible for their family. As a team, they volunteered at their children's schools, as Cub Scout and Boy Scout leaders, and with St. Ann's Catholic Church. In addition to their two sons, they raised dogs, cats, gerbils, beta fish, and an entire herd of desert box tortoises. Linda enjoyed spending time in the mountains, attending the theater, and volunteering at her church. She was an avid reader and supported the arts. She focused on being healthy and protecting the environment. Over the years, she touched many lives and enjoyed making the world a better place. She was an excellent wife, mother, volunteer, parishioner, and friend. On April 6, 2017, with the loving support of her family, Linda Rust entered Heaven after battling cancer. She is survived by her husband, Kenneth Alan Rust; sons, Owen and Colin; sister, Laurel Hummel of Anchorage, Alaska; and mother, Gay Hummel of Clearfield, Pennsylvania. She is also survived by two grandsons, Aiden Rust, son of Owen and Brittany Rust of Midland, and Theodore Rust, son of Colin and Porschia Rust of Sugar Land, Texas.
