ERLYNE COOPER
COOPER ERLYNE STROLL COOPER (Age 86) Passed away on March 31, 2017, in Silver Spring, MD. She is survived by her devoted husband of 59 years, Leonard Cooper; her son, Ward Cooper; her grandson, Alec Cooper, her daughter-in-law, Holly Cooper and her sister, Adele Leibson. Erlyne was born in Montreal, Canada, and moved to Los Angeles as a teenager. A graduate of UCLA with an MSW from University of Southern California (USC), she was a psychiatric social worker who trained social work students and helped countless children, adults and families. Career highlights included serving as executive director of the Blind Children's Center in Los Angeles; coordinating student social work training at the University of Colorado (CU) Medical Center; clinical social work professorships at USC, CU, University of Denver and Smith College; and years of treating patients. She received numerous awards for outstanding work and was recognized in Marquis Who's Who in America. Erlyne had a special talent for making each person she listened to feel important and valued, a skill she also used in retirement through work as a reading tutor, hospice volunteer and on the scholarship committee at Riderwood Village, the retirement community where she lived with her husband. She loved reading and traveling, and enjoyed many wonderful adventures with family and friends. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, May 21 at 1 p.m. in Maryland Hall at Riderwood Village.
