Elzie Glenn Whitlock Virginia Beach - Elzie Glenn Whitlock, 80, passed away on April 13, 2017. He was born in Pulaski, Virginia, on August 24, 1936, and was predeceased by his parents, Thomas Elzie and Marion Martin Whitlock. He is survived by his loving wife of forty-eight years, Faye Green Whitlock and their children: Michelle and Charles Olsen, Michael and Kimberly MacKinnon, Melissa and George Byrd; six grandchildren: Lara and Justin Bush, Tamra and David Murray, Tristian Barnes, Rory and Terah Byrd, Stephen and Casey Byrd, and Taylor Byrd; and eight great-grandchildren. He will also be missed by his many friends. Glenn graduated from Churchland High School, attended North Carolina State University, received his undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia, and his PHD degree from Columbia University. He taught for the University of Maryland on military bases in the Far East for three years before returning to the Tidewater area to run the family business - Whitlock Brothers, Inc. He continued to teach at various colleges and universities, including Old Dominion University, during the next forty-five years in a part-time capacity, while also pursuing advanced degrees in mathematics at ODU. He was passionate about the running of his business, creating many guidelines to measure and assure success for his employees. He enjoyed power-lifting, flying, fishing, sailing, travel, and "dude" ranching. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and a loyal and steadfast friend. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Monday evening at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home in Virginia Beach at 3445 Princess Anne Road. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, April 18, 2017. Burial will follow at Colonial Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Red Cross Disaster Fund, 4550 Virginia Beach Blvd, Va. Beach, VA 23462.
