Stephen Johnston Carter, 74, of Blue Springs, passed away Tuesday, April 11, 2017, at Jackson Creek Nursing Home, Independence. Service at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 18, at the Catholic Church of the Santa Fe, Buckner. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m., with the Rosary at 6 p.m. Monday, April 17, also at the church. Stephen was born Oct. 11, 1942, in Los Angeles, Calif., to Lee S. and Gladys M. Johnston Carter. He moved to Richmond as a teenager and attended Richmond High School and Finley Engineering College. He married Patricia Neer on June 11, 1966, in Richmond. Stephen worked as an Environmental Engineer for the City of Independence and retired in 2012. Stephen is survived by his wife of 50 years, Pat Carter; two daughters, Stephanie Carter- Martin and friend Kim Youngs and Leah Carter-Heinrich and husband Jimmy Heinrich; and eight grandchildren, Andrew, Summer, Samantha, Ace, Ares, Skye Ann, Phoenix and Sistine. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister, Joene Carter. Stephen was loved and will be dearly missed by his family. "Papa" will be remembered for his loving kindness and wonderful vacations with his children and grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Catholic Church of the Santa Fe, 231 South Sibley, Buckner, MO 64016.
