Mary Alice Walker
Mary Alice Walker Laurel-Mary Alice Walker, 88, of Laurel, passed away Thursday, April 13, 2017 at Lofland Park Center in Seaford, where she had resided for the past few years. She was born October 24, 1928 in Gumboro, a daughter of the late Wilbur and Beatrice (Wilkerson) Collins. Mary left school at a young age to help on the family farm. Later in life, while raising kids and starting a family, she bravely decided to go back to school and not only earn her diploma but to also to earn her degree in nursing and to become an LPN. She worked at the former Massey Nursing Home, Chancellor Care Nursing Home, both in Delmar, and spent the last 20 years of her nursing career at the Salisbury Nursing Home. She was an active member of Bethel Worship Center in Seaford and was dedicated to reading her bible. Music was her gift and she enjoyed visiting local nursing homes to sing to the residents. She was also a talented guitar player and for many years played in her family's blue grass band. She will be remembered as a devoted and soft-hearted mother, grandmother, sister and friend and was always willing to lend a hand to those in need. She is survived by children, Vickie A. Wilkerson (Albert) of Laurel, Cindy J. Reynolds (Mike) of Laurel, George A. Walker (Cindy) of Parsonsburg and David Walker (Wendy) of Seaford; grandchildren, Brent, Sharon, Aaron, Mary, Peter, Adam, Darryl, Dawn, Brian, Jennifer, Tessa and Bryan; 26 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, George B. Walker; a sister, Nettie Littleton; and a brother, Bill Collins. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. Bethel Worship Center, 26648 Sussex Hwy, Seaford, DE 19973, where family and friends may call from 12:00 noon to 1:00. Pastor Joe Lecates and Ron Wyatt will officiate. Interment will follow in St. Stephen's Cemetery in Delmar. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963. Arrangements are in the care of Short Funeral Home in Delmar.
