Zammit, Joseph P. 75, of Vestal passed away on Thursday April 13, 2017. Joseph was born March 17, 1942 on the island of Gozo in the Mediterrean country of Malta. He was predeased by his father Paul Zammit, his stepfather George Bugeja , and his mother Rita Bugeja. He is survived by three siblings: his brother George (Karen) Bugeja of Fountain Hills, AZ, Lino (Stella) Bugeja of Howell, MI, and Doris (John R) Tigue III of Vestal, NY. He is survived by 3 Nieces : Carolyn (James) Metaxas, Sarah (Tim) Azzarella, Crystal (Adam) Harnish, 4 Nephews : Lino Jr (Jill) Bugeja, Christian (Lindsay)Bugeja, John R (Jen) Tigue IV, David Tigue and 10 Grand Nieces and Nephews: Marcus, Colin, Nicholas, Garrett, Antonio, Aidan, Adriana, Juliana, Landon, Lily. Joseph was raised on a farm in Gozo and loved animals. He shared a special bond with the family dog Rocky and enjoyed all of the fish in the family aquarium. Joseph was a deaf mute who was special in how he effectively communicated and touched those who met him. He enjoyed the company of family and friends and especially the Lake House parties in the Pocono Mtns. He was employed for years at the Sanders Bakery in Detroit, Michigan and was always willing to assist in family projects. The extended Family would like to make a special recognition to Doris Tigue. In addition to being his loving sister and Legal Guardian, Doris was the strong advocate ensuring Joseph, who didn't drive and was handicapped, was involved in creative/fun activities, had opportunities, and traveled with the family (Michigan, Arizona, Penna, Florida, NYC, Jersey Shore, and a Cruise). Joseph loved being with Doris - running errands, visiting co-workers from Lourdes Hospital, trips to visit the grandchildren, and just being "out and about". He will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him. He was a member of St Vincent DePaul Church, Vestal, NY. A Funeral Mass will be offered on Tuesday at 1:00pm at St. Vincent de Paul / Blessed Sacrament Church, 465 Clubhouse Road, Vestal. Burial will be in the Our Lady of Hope Cemetery, Allen Park, Michigan. The family will receive family and friends at the Barber Memorial Home, Inc., 428 Main St, Johnson City, Monday, from 7-9pm and on Tuesday from 11am until 12 noon.
