Frederick J. Prior
Frederick J. "Fred" Prior, CPA, 76, of Granby, CT, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, died on April 12, 2017 after a two-year struggle with cancer. He was the husband of Dorothy M. Prior, who devoted herself to his care during the last years of his life. Fred was born on October 21, 1940 in New Haven to the late Michael J. and Rose Ann Prior. He is survived by his 3 children, Susan Kean Fisher of Guilford, Robin Nyzio of Pawtucket, RI, and Frederick J. Prior, Jr., of Cranston, RI. In addition, he leaves 7 grandsons: Reese and Cooper Kean; Matthew, Nicholas and Peter Lensing, and George and Theodore Prior. He also leaves 5 great-granddaughters. He leaves his brother, Joseph Prior of North Haven; and his sisters, Carol Gunning of West Haven and Nancy Bacinello of Largo, FL. Fred graduated from Notre Dame H.S. in West Haven, CT, earned a B.S. degree from the University of Connecticut, and an M.S. in Taxation from the University of Hartford. He practiced as a CPA for over 50 years, most recently as a sole practitioner in Simsbury. Fred began his career at Columbia Records, and later worked as an IRS auditor before moving onto corporate taxation for Ernst & Ernst and later KPMG. He was a 3rd degree member of the Knights of Columbus. Fred enjoyed spending time at the beach cottage in Madison, and on his sailboat, the Priority. He enjoyed listening to music, especially the annual sea music festival at Mystic Seaport, as well as local folk music concerts. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially with his grandsons. Friends may call on the family on Monday, April 17 at Hayes-Huling & Carmon Funeral Home, 364 Salmon Brook St., Granby, CT from 4-7PM. A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Fred's life will be held on Tuesday, April 18 at 11AM at St. Catherine of Siena Church, 265 Stratton Brook Rd., West Simsbury. Everyone is kindly asked to go directly to church in the morning. A burial ceremony following the Mass and reception at church will be held at 2:30PM at Simsbury Cemetery, 16 Plank Hill Rd., Simsbury.
