In memory of
Dominick Joseph L. "Nick" Palestino Jr.
Dominick (Nick) Joseph L. Palestino, Jr. March 28, 1961 - March 27, 2017 A Resident of Santa Cruz Dominick (Nick) Joseph Louis Palestino Jr. passed away, at the young age of 54, at home on Monday due to complications from a previous stroke. He is survived by his son Tommy Munro, brother Anthony (Nancy) Palestino, sister Roberta (Daryl) Deas, his five nieces and several great nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Dominick J. Palestino, Sr. and Roberta Robinson. Nick was born in Santa Ana, California. Nick spent his childhood in New York and Jacksonville, Florida. Soon after becoming a young adult he moved back to California where he settled in Santa Cruz. Nick was known to friends and family for his charming wit and by his great capacity for rebelliousness. He enjoyed the solitude he found in nature and had a passion for building and riding motorcycles. His favorite music genre was southern rock, especially Lynard Skynard. His life could be summed up in two of their most popular songs, Simple Man and Free Bird. He kept life simple and lived as a free bird. Nick put his natural strength and athleticism to work in his tree service business and applied his self-taught engineering skills to bicycle, motorcycle and automotive repair. Later in life he enrolled in the welding technologies program at a community college and eventually went to work with the Iron Worker's Union, Local 377. His work as a welder can be admired when you look at the Santa Cruz skyline and see the steeple of the Holy Cross Church. Nick's greatest passion and pride was for his son Tommy. You didn't have to be around him long and to know how proud he was of his son or how much he loved his family. He is gone all too soon and will be missed by many. A memorial service to celebrate Nick's life will be held on Sunday, May 7th from 2 to 5 p.m., at the Skypark Classroom, 361 King's Village Road, Scotts Valley, Ca. All are welcome!
