AURORA ~ James E. Shumaker, 75, of Creve Coeur, passed away at 9:30 a.m. Sunday, March 12, 2017 at the OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria. He was formerly of Aurora. Born March 24, 1941 in Clark County to Harlan and Martha (Spoonemore) Shumaker, he was raised in Harrisburg. He married Connie Angell on October 14, 1961. She survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Karen Shumaker of Creve Coeur and Jessica Dull of Peoria; two sons, James D. (Christie) Shumaker and Daniel Shumaker, both of Creve Coeur; four grandchildren, Toni Shumaker, Pierce Shumaker, Kaydin Moore, and Callie Moore; three step-grandchildren, Andrew Chapai, Gage Chapai and Cameron Chapai; one great-granddaughter, Danielle Cody; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Lori Angell (Shumaker) Moore; six brothers, Theodore, Thomas, Lester, Donald, John and Chester; and two sisters, Irene Kennedy and Lucille Ward. Jim had served his country in the United States Army and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1232 in Creve Coeur. He had worked for Caterpillar, Inc. in Mossville as an inspector, retiring after 30 years of service. Jim was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. He loved his family and doted on his grandchildren. His funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 18, 2017 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Creve Coeur. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Fon du Lac Cemetery in East Peoria, where military rites will be accorded. Memorial contributions may be given to a charity of the donor's choice.
