Judith Ann "Judie" Michael
July 17, 1940 - March 5, 2017 Judith "Judie" Ann Michael (Kenyon) passed away on March 5, 2017 at the age of 76. She was born on July 17, 1940 in San Francisco, California. Judie moved to Stockton when she was one. She was deeply rooted in the Stockton community. She graduated from Stockton High School, and received her bachelor's degree and teaching credential from Sacramento State University. She was a talented and dedicated teacher with Stockton Unified School District for 36 years. During the mid-1970's, Judie became involved with the, then controversial, Teacher Corps program which sought to integrate the teacher pool. As a teacher-trainer and team leader she was an ardent advocate for integration and for the Teacher Corps members. She was a master teacher who always knew what to say to reach her students. She married her best friend and the love of her life, Mathyas Michael, in 1986. This union brought 5 children into Judie's life. Judie took pride in her home and delighted in making holidays and celebrations special for her family. She was an avid football fan and proud member of the San Francisco 49'er Booster Club. She held memberships to numerous clubs and organizations including: Delta Kappa Gamma sorority, Stockton Teachers Association, Moose Club, Elks Club, Gold Diggers Family Motorhome Association, Stockton Unified Soccer Club and the Retired Teachers Association. After she retired, her adventurous spirit lead her and her husband to become full-time RV'ers. They traveled across the United States together, visiting 46 states in five years. There wasn't a stranger that Judie did not know. She was most happy when she was helping others. She had many lifelong friends. Her bridge club in particular, lasted over 30 years. Judie has been a part of the Ethiopian community for many years, and thus, has developed a large extended Habesha family. She was preceded in death by her father Charles P. Kenyon and Mother Gladys F. Kenyon of Stockton. She is survived by her husband of 31 years Mathyas Michael; sons Yohannes N. Mathyas Sr. and Mathyas "Louis" Michael; daughters Tsehai Russell, Tenagne Lidquist, and Tigist Kebede; daughters-in-law Meka, Shareene, Sarah, and Azalia; 20 grandchildren and 2 great-grand children.Memorial Service Friday, March 17, 12:00 Service; 1:30 repast both held at Colonial Rose Chapel and Cremation. Memorial donations can be made to the Stockton Teachers Association Scholarship Fund.
