Klaus-Dieter Schleim Retired Merck biologist, talented wildlife photographer Klaus-Dieter Schleim, born April 16, 1946, died Feb. 12, 2017, after a long illness. Viewing will be at the Sheenan Funeral Home, 233 Dunellen Ave., Dunellen, N.J., on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A religious service will be held Monday morning at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be private. Mr. Schleim was born in Wiesbaden-Schierstein, Germany, and came to the United States in 1969. He was the son of Heinrich Schleim and Hildegart Schiel Schleim. Klaus was a research biologist employed by Merck & Company, Rahway, N.J., from 1969 until his retirement in 2009. Klaus was an avid fisherman. However, his passion was nature photography. He was a lover of wildlife and a connoisseur of wildlife behavior; one only had to watch the love affair he had with his subjects. Over the years Klaus was a member of several camera clubs, a member of the Photographic Society of America and a photography judge. During his competing years, Klaus won hundreds of ribbons and many medals at home and abroad for his nature work with flowers, animals, birds and fish. He was a truly dedicated and talented photographer with great technical expertise. Klaus is survived by his devoted wife of 41 years, Rosalinda; his nephew, Victor Perguidi and wife, Frances; his niece, Sandra and husband, Jeffrey; his grand- nephew, David Perguidi and wife, Heather, and their children; his niece, Kristy Gould Knarr and husband, Wade, and their children; and his cousin in Germany, Hans-Jurgen Scheil. The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff at Newark Beth Israel Hospital for their excellent care of Klaus, especially his oncologist, Dr. Indu Sabnani, for her unfailing dedication over the years. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Klaus's name to the Cancer Society or to the Plainfield ASPCA Humane Society, 75 Rock Ave., Plainfield, N.J.
