In memory of
Elizabeth Mulcahy Telthorst
Telthorst, Elizabeth Mulcahy October 31st, 1967 to February 16th, 2017 Elizabeth left us early Thursday morning after a hard-fought battle with breast cancer that lasted almost 14 years. A 1986 graduate of Parkway West High School, she went on to the University of Iowa, where she obtained a degree in journalism in 1990. Early in her career she founded a nonprofit organization called Challenges that provided a camping experience for children with intellectual, developmental, and physical disabilities. That experience inspired her to pursue graduate education in social work in the Brown School at Washington University. Elizabeth obtained her Master of Social Work degree in 1999 and was certified as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. Her practice included working with children and youth born in St. Louis, MO and Boston, MA. She married Dr. Dean Telthorst on October 18, 2014. Elizabeth and Dean shared a great love of the outdoors and an interest in photography and motorcycling. She rode a Harley and was a licensed pilot. Elizabeth dedicated her life to helping others. She served in many capacities with both the American Youth Foundation and Kids4Peace, including as a member of both boards. She even transformed her cancer experience into service on the Patient and Family Advisory Council at Siteman Cancer Center and the Institutional Review Board at Washington University, where she received care. Her reach has been wide, and she left this world a better place than she found it. She will be greatly missed by scores of friends and a large and loving family. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Dean Telthorst; her mother Jo Ann Mulcahy; her father Pat Mulcahy (Midge), her sisters Susan Mulcahy and Molly Schwartz (Paul); her brother Andy Mulcahy (Molly), Mike Mulcahy (Lynn) and Chad Boldt (Laura); two stepsons Zach and Connor Telthorst; multiple nieces and nephews, and a dear friend to many. Services: The Funeral Service will be conducted at THE LUPTON CHAPEL, 7233 Delmar Blvd,, University City, on Monday, February 20, at 10:30 am.
