In memory of
Lawrence Zane "Larry" Fleshman
Lawrence Zane "Larry" Fleshman March 29, 1931 - February 15, 2017 Resident of Roseville Larry Fleshman passed away peacefully on February 15, 2017 at his home in Roseville, California. He was born March 29th,1931 in Hot Springs, Virginia to Nora (Jones) and Cecil Fleshman. One of eight boys, Larry attended elementary and high school in Washington, D.C. before joining the U.S. Navy at 18. On June 19th, 1950 he married Elizabeth Ann Conto, a cute Italian girl whose parents immigrated from Bisceglie, Italy. Stationed in Norfolk, Virginia, his training as an aircraft mechanic led to a 40-year career in the airline industry. Larry's first job after the Navy was with Capital Airlines at National Airport in Washington, D.C. Capital merged with United Air Lines in 1961 and five years later, Larry accepted a promotional opportunity at United's Aircraft Maintenance Base in San Francisco. Larry retired in 1991 as a Director in the System Aircraft Maintenance Control (SAM-C). He earned the respect of his colleagues, was a great mentor to those he managed, and his retirement party is still talked about as the best ever. While he was always dedicated to his work, the center of Larry's life was his family. Larry was a great dad to his six kids and no father ever did a better job of instilling strong values, work ethic, and unconditional love. He especially loved being a grandfather and was the number one fan at every sporting event he could possibly attend. He will long be remembered for his wit and great sense of humor. If he wasn't pretending to steal your nose or calling you an ugly buzzard, he was choking up with pride while sharing stories of your successes at school or in sports. At the end of his life, Larry was able to say goodbye and share his gratitude for his family and for having lived a great life. Larry is survived by Elizabeth, his wife of 66 years; his children (and their spouses) Kathy Hendrickson (Steve), Larry Fleshman (Mary), Judy Samudovsky (Joe), Toni Egan (Tim), and Maria Fernandez (Chris). He is also survived by 13 grandchildren who loved their Pop: Stacey Newton, Tripp Fleshman, Christine Hendrickson, Elisabeth Annicella, Brian Fleshman, Lisa Bower, Joseph and Vincent Samudovsky, Patricia Fernandez, Anna Linde, Elizabeth Egan, Anthony Fernandez and John Joseph Egan. Larry adored his eight great grandchildren: Penelope and Juliette Fleshman, Zane and Charlotte Fleshman, Ace and Kitty Newton, Luca Annicella and Johnny Wahlgren. Larry was predeceased by his daughter, Pattie Fleshman, and his brothers Cecil, John, Doff and Timothy Fleshman. Visitation will be held Wednesday, February 22nd at Chapel of the Valley, 97 Vernon St, Roseville, CA from 6:30 to 7:00 with recitation of the Rosary at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 23rd at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 633 Vine Street, Roseville, CA.
