Joseph P. Vitris
Joseph P. Vitris, 84, of West Scranton, died Wednesday afternoon at home after being stricken ill. Born in Scranton, son of the late Dominick and Josephine Crispino Vitris, he was educated in Scranton schools and was a graduate of Scranton Central High School. He was a veteran of the Army, serving during the Korean War. Presently, he was owner and manager of Tri Star Compact-2 Sweeper Co. He was a member of St. Lucy's Church, West Scranton. He was a loving and devoted brother, uncle, brother-in-law and friend. He enjoyed playing cards and trips to local casinos and the race track. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends. Surviving are two sisters, Kay Atwood, Newport News, Va.; and Ann Zikoski, Scranton; two brothers, Nick and Sam, both of Scranton; a sister-in-law, Joan Vitris, Scranton; nieces including Karen and Kayla Turonis, Plains; nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Frank; and two sisters, Ann Marie Heller and Francine Kowalski. The funeral will be Saturday with Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 9:30 a.m. in St. Lucy's Church, 949 Scranton St., Scranton. Interment, Cathedral Cemetery, Oram Street, Scranton. Friends may call Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Carl J. Savino Jr. Funeral Home, 157 S. Main Ave., Scranton. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Lucy's Church, 949 Scranton St., Scranton, PA 18504. Those attending the funeral on Saturday morning are asked to go directly to church.
