Robert Jimenez
Robert Jimenez, 88, passed away peacefully on February 9, 2017. He was born on December 15, 1928, in Bakersfield, CA. Robert was a kind, loving, funny, and generous man who will be greatly missed. His family were the owners of the Jimenez Cafe, and his father was a colonel under Pancho Villa. The Jimenez family is a well-known old-time Hispanic family. Most of his life, he served in the military. He is a veteran of two armed services, serving in the Navy from February 15, 1945, to July 31, 1953; and the Army from May 25, 1960, to his discharge in 1971, which completed 20 years of military duty. Robert served in Vietnam, in Korea in Yokohama, Japan. In 1960, he joined the Army and was assigned duty during the Berlin air crisis. In the summer of 1965, Jimenez was sent to Vietnam, spending most of his 14 months in Thailand. Robert was sent back to Vietnam in May 1968 and has been awarded two Army Commendation Medals and a Bronze Star for heroism. After leaving the service, he worked for the County of Kern, Parks Dept. Once Robert retired, he enjoyed a variety of activities, going to the casinos, buying scratchers, and spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sophia; his parents, Jesus and Louisa Jimenez; his twin brother Jess, Raymond; and sisters, Petra, Josephine, Blanche, Angie, MaryLou, and Adella. He is survived by his brother, Rudy (Mary); sisters, Yolanda Ortega and Mary Salcido (David). The family wishes to thank Columbus Estates, Pacifica Senior Living, and Optimal Hospice for their wonderful care. We also want to thank Denise, Zachary and her family for taking him under their wing and allowing him to live his life to the fullest, with much love, fun, and happiness. Also, thank you to Corrine, Rudy and Mary Jimenez for always being there. Robert, you may be gone from our sight, but you will always be in our hearts.
