MAXINE M. "MICKEY" AVILA, 87, of Leo, formerly of Roanoke, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2017, at The Cedars, Leo. She worked as an RN at St. Joseph Hospital, retiring in 1993. Born Oct. 20, 1929, in Elkhart, she was a daughter of Charles C. and Helen M. (Weirich) Janiak. On Nov. 11, 1950, she married her beloved husband of 59 years, Carlos Avila, in Roanoke; he passed away Oct. 23, 2010. She is survived by six daughters, Victoria (Mark) Linker of Huntington, Helena (Dan) Robbins of Roanoke, Anita (Mike) Bultemeier of Leo, Marita (Jobie) Johnson of Lutz, Fla., Alicia (Scott) Raber of Churubusco, and Paula Avila of Fort Wayne; two sons, Joe (Connie) Avila and Mike (Kim) Avila, both of Fort Wayne; 27 grandchildren, 63 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Carlos F. Avila; a sister, Rebecca Wyatt; and two great-grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial is 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, 2017, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with visitation from 9 to 10 a.m. Father Dale Bowman officiating. Visitation also from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 17, 2017, at Roanoke Memorial Chapel of Deal-Rice Funeral Homes. Burial will follow service in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Roanoke.
