Herma Marie Steves Tarbell
Herma Marie Steves Tarbell entered into eternal life on February 14, 2017 at her home in Union City, Pa., at the age of 95. She was born on July 8, 1921 on Shreve's Ridge in LeBoeuf Township, Erie County, Pa., to Paul E. and Ruth Johnson Steves. She graduated from Union City High School in 1939, where she played the violin in the school orchestra, edited the school newspaper and the yearbook, and was valedictorian. She graduated from Erie Business School in 1941. She married Neil A. Tarbell on November 27, 1941. In the early years of raising her family, she also worked as a waitress for Tarbell's Tea Room. Later she worked at Corry-Jamestown until her retirement. She also enjoyed quilting, and each of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren received a treasured quilt. She also enjoyed gardening as well as traveling. Time spent with her family was always her first priority. She was an inspiration to many who knew her. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Union City, the Nature Conservancy, and the Quilter's Society. She is survived by her seven children: Francie Fleek (Bob) of Lawrenceville, Ga.; Raymond Tarbell (Sandy) of Alpharetta, Ga.; Jerry Tarbell (Laura) of Hampstead, Md.; Steven and Thomas Tarbell of Union City, Pa.; Kenneth Tarbell (Mary) of Harrisburg, Pa.; and Bruce Tarbell of Janesville, Wis. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Melanie Sherman (Bob) of Stone Mountain, Ga.; Brian Fleek (Kelli) of Flowery Branch, Ga.; Brian Tarbell of Alpharetta, Ga.; Kelly Tarbell Watrous of Corry, Pa.; Cris and Kyle Tarbell of Harrisburg, Pa.; and Bill Tarbell (Kim) of White Oak,Pa., as well as her great-grandchildren Bennett and Connor Sherman, Addison Antonetti, Andrew and Robby Fleek, and Lexy and Alli Watrous. She is also survived by her sister, Norma Steves Weber, as well as many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband of 61 years in 2001, her brother Howard Steves, and two of her grandchildren, Scott Tarbell and Greg Tarbell. Arrangements are entrusted to the Robert M. Glenn Funeral Home, Inc. Calling hours will be held from 12:00 noon until the time of funeral services at 1:00 p.m., on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at the First United Methodist Church of Union City, 42 East High Street, Union City, PA 16438. The family would like to express their thanks to Regional Hospice, as well as the many friends and relatives who were so kind to her during her final days.
