John J. Laporte
John J. LaPorte John J. LaPorte, 68, of Garden Prairie passed away February 13, 2017 surrounded by his family. John was born in Chicago to Joseph and Catherine (McLeod) LaPorte. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Vietnam War. On March 24, 1972 he married Susan J. Sudeikis in Chicago. John was a meat cutter for National Tea Company, Sentry Foods, Meijer Foods, and Pacemaker Foods. He is survived by his wife, Susan J. LaPorte; his children, Richard (Jaclyn) LaPorte, Jennifer (Rizik) Mohammad, and Justin LaPorte; his grandchildren, Isabella and Khloe LaPorte, Noah, Cordelia, and Ramzi Mohammad; and his brother, Thomas (Cathy) LaPorte.He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Lawrence LaPorte and Margaret Widmer. The family would like to thank the Veterans Assistance Commission of Boone County, Dr. Sharif of the VA Clinic of Rockford, the William S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital, Heartland Hospice, and Swedish Memorial Medical Clinic in Belvidere. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 9:00pm on Thursday, February 16 at Marengo-Union Funeral Home, 505 E. Grant Hwy., Marengo. There will be a service at 7:00pm. Interment will be at Noon on Friday, February 17 at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, 20953 W. Hoff Road, Elwood. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Veterans Assistance Commission of Boone County, 130 South State St., Suite 212, Belvidere, IL 61008.
