In memory of
Benjamin J. Spicer
Benjamin J. Spicer Portsmouth - Benjamin James Spicer passed away peacefully with his brother and sister-in-law at his side on Sunday, February 12, 2017. He is predeceased by his parents, William E. Spicer and Connie Jo Hutto. Survivors include his brother William J Spicer and wife Brandi, aunts Gloria Clement and Judy Thompson, uncle Jim Thompson, and stepfather, Robert Hutto. His extended family of cousins and relatives played a large role, as well. Ben was born August 20, 1978, and was his mother's world, best friend to his brother, and touched the lives of hundreds of people during his time with us. A miracle every day of his life, he had a smile and laugh for everyone he met. A graduate of Portsmouth Public Schools, including the DAC Center, Ben loved his many teachers who went above and beyond to help him. He received the best and most loving, skilled care in the area from doctors, nurses, respiratory therapists, and others. The teams who cared for him at Lake Taylor Hospital and Sentara Leigh are the epitome of compassion and diligence. Ben liked country music (Garth Brooks and Reba especially), animals, fire trucks, swimming in a pool, Hooters, slapstick comedy, and flirting with nurses. He lived to see people laugh and made a profound impression on the people who he encountered from doctors to people at the mall. A graveside service will be held 10:30 A.M. Saturday, February 18 at Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens. The family will greet friends at Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel Friday, February 17, from 6 to 8 P.M. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Portsmouth Humane Society or the Special Olympics Virginia in his name. Condolences may be made to the family online at www.SturtevantFuneralHome.com
