In May of 1943, he was called to active duty and was assigned to the 95th Infantry Division, where he served until he was wounded in action in France in November of 1944, while leading his platoon. He always said being wounded was the best thing to ever happen to him. The day after being wounded, his entire platoon was killed in an ambush. He was a member of The American Institute of CPAs, The Illinois CPA Society, The American Accounting Association and The American Society of College Professors. The Illinois CPA Society named him as one of their "Distinguished Members" in 1988. He attended Epworth Methodist Church in Peoria, Illinois. Arthur's years in Peoria brought many memories. He raised his family in Peoria, with a son and granddaughter both graduating from Bradley University. He was extremely devoted to his wife, Selma, and both enjoyed going dancing every weekend, playing cards and traveling. His passion for bowling showed in the many years of leagues he played on, most recently in 2015, but it also resonated in his two sons who also loved the game. His grandkids visited often throughout their lives, creating special memories for each of them. He was truly a wonderful man.
