Virgle E. Shubert April 10, 1927-February 14, 2017 Myrtle Beach, SC Virgle E. Shubert, 89 passed away peacefully Tuesday, February 14 at his home in Myrtle Beach. A dedicated Christian, he was a brave and loyal soldier, a loving and devoted husband, and a patient and loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Virgle was born on April 10, 1927 in Gastonia, NC to William Robert & Bertha Shubert. He was drafted into the Army in 1950 and fought in the Korean War. He continued to serve our country in the United States Navy from 1954-58. Following his honorable discharge from the Navy, he served 24 years in the United States Air Force. In 1967, he completed a tour of duty in Thailand supporting our cause during the Vietnam War. After retiring from the Air Force in 1975, he went to work for Santee Cooper and was responsible for running the gas turbines in Myrtle Beach from December, 1977 through September, 1990. He was an active member of First Baptist Church in Myrtle Beach for over 40 years and a volunteer at several community organizations including Associated Charities, Meals on Wheels, and Horry County Voters Registration & Elections department as a Poll Worker. Virgle is now reunited in Heaven with his beloved wife, Marcelle "Marcy" Shubert as well as his parents and sister, Betty Perry of Gastonia. He is survived by his children Curtis Shubert of Hilton Head Island, SC, Tim Shubert of Blue Ridge, GA, and Marla Shubert of Dallas, TX; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; as well as four brothers and many friends. The family will receive friends Friday, February 17th from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at McMillan-Small Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM, Saturday, February 18, 2017, at the First Baptist Church in Myrtle Beach. Burial will follow at Ocean Woods Memorial Cemetery with military honors.
