Mary-Ann Sparkman Chincoteague, VA Mary-Ann Sparkman, 73, of Chincoteague, VA, and formerly of Hopewell Township, NJ, passed away Wednesday at Capital Heath Medical Center in Hopewell. Born on Long Island, NY, Mary-Ann graduated from high school early and went on to receive a degree from Syracuse University in education. She worked for 41 years in the Hopewell Valley School District as both an elementary school teacher and vice principal. With her husband she raised two children and called Hopewell Township home for many years. Upon retiring she and her husband relocated to Chincoteague, VA, where the family had vacationed together for years. An avid reader and lover of crossword puzzles, Mary-Ann enjoyed the quiet and serene environment of this little fishing village. She immersed herself in the community and was often found volunteering and assisting families in need. Daughter of the late William F. and Mary Catherine Papp Engert, she is survived by her husband, John G. Sparkman; a son and daughter-in-law, William G. and Kim Sparkman of New York City; a daughter and son-in-law, Mary E. and Robert Dispoto of Mt. Laurel, NJ; a sister and brother-in-law, Susan and Richard S. Lafferty Sr. of Hopewell, NJ; a grandson, John C. Dispoto; a nephew, Richard S. Lafferty Jr. and his wife, Mandy, and a niece, Melinda Lafferty. A private service will be held by the family, condolences are welcome at www.wilsonapple.com .
