Charles E. Lehigh December 31, 1922 - February 12, 2017 McConnellsburg Charles E. Lehigh, 94, formerly of Hanover, passed away on Sunday, February 12, 2017 at his home. He was the loving husband of Elizabeth Mae (Pifer) Lehigh, whom he married June 26, 1949. Born December 31, 1922 in York Springs, he was a son of the late Samuel Milton and Martha Elizabeth (Weaver) Lehigh. . Charles was a lifelong faithful member and Deacon of Pleasant Hill Church of the Brethren. He was also the owner / operator of Lehigh's Greenhouse. Charles was a great lover of poetry and was known for his skill of reciting from memory. An avid reader, he especially enjoyed Reader's Digest, of which he had a vast collection. Charles also loved history and was a talented writer. In addition to his wife, Elizabeth, Charles is survived by seven children, Paul M. Lehigh and his wife, Patricia of McConnellsburg, Timothy M. Lehigh and his wife, Shirley of Charlottesville, VA, Samuel M. Lehigh and his wife, Karen of Hanover, Lois S. McCleary and her husband, Brian of Topsham, ME, Almira D. Kline and her husband, David of Myerstown, Joseph M. Lehigh and his wife, Myra of Gettysburg, and Shannon B. Lehigh and his wife, Heidi of Alpena, AR. Charles is also survived by 33 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by five siblings, David, Faith, Hope, Amos and Rosella. A service to celebrate the life of Charles Lehigh will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, February 17, 2017 at the Pleasant Hill Church of the Brethren, 9002 Orchard Rd.; Spring Grove, with Brother Steve Fodor and Brother Jeff Birt officiating. A time to share memories with the family and an opportunity to view will be on Thursday, February 16 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., and again on Friday morning from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Interment will follow in Pleasant Hill Church of the Brethren Cemetery. For those desiring, memorial contributions in honor of Charles may be made to Bible Helps, PO Box 391, Hanover, PA 17331.
